November 7, 2009 1 comment

As many of you know I have not been blogging much for ages here, I hope to change that and will be adding a series of post on matters relating to a smaller audiance thenthe whole open web, I will not close this entirly but will password protect posts that I only want a limited number of people to read. I will still try to keep up some travel and photograph type things here to keep the thing going for all but my primary reason for this blog will be more targeted, good news for those of you who will get the password as I think you might enjoy more indepth views on things to come.

Correction on the word YOKEN, and more

May 10, 2006 Leave a comment

I’ve been researching the word yoken and have come to realize (what most of you already know) it is not a word, I’ve poured through old English and Bible dictionaries and nope, it’s not in there either. Only yoked and yoking are alternatives, guess I’ve always just been a bit of a hick and heard yokin’ and thought it was a real word as a verb for the act of yoking something, cattle for instance. We can coin it as a new word for the mags name or come up with something new entirely different, it’s all good. I will move this part of my blog to its own page PWed so if anyone wants to read more and keep up with the developments you’ll have to write grassrootspub@gmail.com and ask for the PW for that part of my blog.
GrassRootsPub (GWP) will be for brainstorming and producing things for the Family “open source” style in that different people will build on the work of others to produce something for the benefit of all. It's kind of like how Linux, Firefox, wordpress and other things are done but this will be for writing and printed material not code and software. If you don’t have much time, give a little. If we get enough people to give some time/effort/talents it will make a lot that we all can benefit from.

Youth magazine, for us by us. Wanna help?

May 9, 2006 Leave a comment

yoken sample 200.jpgHere is another idea I’m throwing out on this blog. For some years now I’ve been thinking of doing a magazine for the Family geared particularly to Family young people 18-80 – opps that’s my age range for something else :P, more like 15-16 and up to all those still young at heart. The details are sketchy at this point but probably as a downloadable from a web site and/or be able to read the articles from this site (yet to be made). The reason for posting here is to put out a call for anyone (FD, MM) interested in helping get this going. I’m hoping to have it as a quarterly mag depending on the amount of content contributed.

I know we are all busy in our lives and missionary work around the word but there is always a little time here and there or you might be doing writing or photography as a hobby, or are just looking for a challenge and fun away to build up CVA credits.

For general news, happenings and testimonies keep sending them to the GV, Link, XN/FSM this is not for that content. This would be for variety things like interviews, mission field profiles, music and all the many facets of Family life. This is just an additional avenue for Family members to promote and uplift the Lord the Word and our unique lifestyle in an informal way amongst ourselves and to the younger ones in a contemporary way. This won’t be for the GP or for anyone just to vent their views and feelings if it does not meet the above mentioned standard.

What is needed is:
Field journalists (on location at local camps, concerts and witnessing opportunities)
Writers (for other pieces, essays, op-ed, columns etc)
Editors
Photographers (to capture the action and also pictorial assignments)
Artist/ graphic talent
Web/tech

A tentative name for it is YOKEN, I know it is an archaic word and associated these days in the gaming world but here is something I got when I asked Him about it. (If anyone has any other ideas or gets anything please pass it on at the email at the end of this post)

The yoke is a very important symbol to the Family and one I have ordained the Family to use and bare with pride as my prophets of the end. In the world it is looked on as a burned or a sign of bondage but I look on it very differently for my yoke is easy and my burden is light. It is a joy and honor for my children and not a chain or weight. I ask you to be yoked one to another and yoked in my love and not unequally yoked with the world and unbelievers so you really should be proud of this symbol I’ve given you and a constant reminder. It is a humble word picture but fitting as my endtime prophets and show that I choose the humble things of this world and that without me you are nothing.

Anyone interested please contact me (Jayman) at grassrootspub@gmail.com let me know how you want to help and your key for farther contact on this. Spread the word.
More will be posted on this in the coming days.

Peace, and revolution!
Jayman

PS. The picture is just an old pic I did some years back and just to show a cover idea that is a word picture as an example that could differentiate this Mag from our other pub cover styles. With less focus being on who it is and more on what it conveys.

I have a dream…

March 2, 2006 Leave a comment

starlight.jpgWell, it was more like an idea or euphoric mental serge of inspiration while serving myself some “healthy” ricepuffs for breakfast. I’ve recently been watching and listening to some music clips done by independent full time volunteers and it is truly amazing the level of talent that they are able to do without sophisticated cameras or editing equipment. It is a personal goal and dream of mine to one day to direct/produce (and film if needed) a music video of some of the TCD songs that come out as pictures can bring a songs message home with a good interpretation and direction. Similarly I think there could be a big vacuum for documentary style films (an upgrade or more “handheld” feel then the The Vine format) as we are all involved in full time volunteer work it is just a matter or having a clear story to tell and knowing how to tell it. This idea was though to have a Family “film festival” (music video, documentary, animated etc.) where those that have a hand in it can show their work and have workshops sharing ideas tips etc. and develop skills to do even better jobs next time. My dream is to host it on the Croatian coast as it is just a fantastic setting for such a thing (think Mediterranean old town watching on an outside projector screening in the evening after time on the beach) and would be a cool incentive for people to come for some time (3-7 days) depending on the amount of material being screened. Like I said it is just an idea, the bands and singers get to have organized rock concerts like Wordstock and EuRock why can’t there be something for film clips? Sure it would be a bit different not being coupled as a teen fellowship but if kids are doing audiovisual editing CVA or acting, music or journalism I think it could be a good place for young people to showcase what they’ve done and to learn from others who have put some things together to screen. Perhaps we can hold classes on these subjects by CVA instructors or have guest speakers like Johnny B, Benny, or Gabe Iowa who are veterans of this and have used their talents in this field and have successfully incorporated these talents into their service as full time missionaries for many years now. Sure I might have to wait till the millennium to see this take place but then again who would have believed if they’d had heard areas holding big rock concerts for teens 5-10 years ago but with good ideas and the right timing and support it happens. Anyone out there reading this who wants to help/ talk or share ideas just drop a line and we’ll see where this goes.
